The last time we cooked this one up it was 2019 (pre-pandemic, pre-canning line). Hop Dudes had just made landfall in Mochimune, escaping the watchful eye of the Nemesis, strategically (and emphatically) pumping out juiced up hazy goodies and west coast style ales of varying degrees. Scrolls Only was a misfit of sorts, back then. Originally intended as a kind of Starwatcher-hybrid (we were looking to concoct something with a touch lower ABV than it’s big brother but with equal hop punch), it took on a life of its own and in doing so, became a kind of cult legend in the early days of WCB. A 6.0% pale ale with a smattering of Simcoe, Amarillo, Idaho 7 and Sultana (known as Denali back then), we sought to recreate it as a throwback for moar year-end citrusy/grapefruit feels while keeping your alcohol intake in consideration (only so much we can do about this though). The name comes from us having issues with illustration deadlines, and having to gratuitously rip the scroll images out of the OG Alchemist artwork, coupling it with some of our little Hop Dude beach breakwater climbers. One for the ages and we are stoked for the comeback!
